I live around some great communities. I reside and work in Canton but neighbor the communities of Woodstock, Acworth, Marietta, & Kennesaw. There are so many opportunities to serve and I love being able to get involved in community events. On March 24th, I will be serving at two local events. The first being at Frey Elementary School where they are hosting their first health workshop fair day. I know what you are thinking. Why on earth are you offering your services at a health fair? Well, one I was asked and I was available so I agreed to help. Two, I think healthy lifestyles are important and I think its great that an elementary school is taking steps to promote this to their students & families. Plus, I thought it would be fun to give one lucky family a door-prize for a portrait session!
The second event deals with something close to my heart. There are so many neglected and abused children around the world that it can be paralyzing when you think about trying to do something about it. But there are small ways to take steps towards healing for these children. Some friends of mine, a husband and wife couple, have started a non-profit organization called New Hope Haven to specifically minister to children that come from this kind of background. They use horses and horseback riding lessons as a tool to facilitate healing, encourage spiritual growth and develop valuable life skills. One girl they are working with rarely speaks due to past abuse and neglect. But when she comes to ride and be around the horses, something opens her up and she is able to communicate freely. On Saturday they are hosting a horse show and family fun day to raise funds and awareness for their new organization.
